The holy grail of desserts:

I've just been alerted to the fact that The Cheesecake Factory now has a Red Velvet Cheesecake- and I left the country without trying it. You have no idea how much I'm kicking myself right now. Seriously- think about it. Red Velvet cake. Cheesecake. Cream cheese frosting. All in one. Are you running to the Cheesecake Factory to try this bad boy yet? You really should be. And tell me how it is; I'll live vicariously through your delectable description.

In other news, this is our lovely laptop post-United flight from Baltimore to Tokyo:
Unfortunately, that is not a cool abstract desktop image. It is a smashed-in screen. Thank you United flight attendants for forcing me to check my carry-on bag at the gate because you ran out of room for luggage on the plane, and a big thank you as well to the always delicate baggage handlers for treating my belongings with such love and care. Hey, it's not like they RUINED it- the top left-hand corner of the computer is still completely functional. Who needs the rest of the screen anyway?

If only I had a piece of red velvet cheesecake to drown my sorrows in...

Would you hate me if I told you that I'm eating that cheesecake for breakfast? OK, I won't tell you.

That picture of your laptop makes me want to cry. The next time you come home, we'll get cheesecake.

That laptop is the exact reason R and I refuse to ever, ever check our electronics. He rushed me onto the plane last weekend just to make sure we had a space for our carry on luggage. I was annoyed then, but grateful now!

Does AppleCare cover this?

holy smokes! I would be SO pissed off if I were you...
So are they going to reimburse you for the damage????

Why did you come back to Japan so much sooner than your hubby? I think if I had to spend a month away from Pete, I would be staying back in the states for the whole time. It would be lonely over here without him. You should go buy a puppy =) Just don't tell the landlords!

No AppleCare unfortunately- this computer is old and AppleCare ran out a while ago.

I don't think we're going to get reimbursed. In order to do that, I would have to go back down to Narita to have them inspect the damage in person and file a claim, and since it's an old computer that was on it's way out anyway, it's just not worth it. If it was a newer computer, I'd be fighting for something, but I'm just sort of letting this one go...

I'm wondering why I came back so soon too. I think at the time I was thinking I would get bored back home since everyone would be busy working and stuff, plus the tickets to come back when I did were several hundred dollars cheaper for some reason.
Plus, it's not so bad being here alone. Kinda boring yes, but Japan is home now, so it's nice to be back!

I'm liking the puppy idea... don't tempt me!!!

Oh Patty, I'm so sorry about your computer breaking! That sucks...I would be so mad and not writing nearly so rational a description of it as you. As it turns out, I have a "totalled" apple too...a desktop with internal problems beyond affordable repair since last year. Hmm, maybe we could devise some ceremony to send them off to iHeaven together.

Hi

I did this to my pc. I am not sure about apple but I was able to replace the screen. Google it or ebay it. The place I brought my screen from gave you the instruction for replacing the screen. It is quiet common to do for a PC.

I'm sorry Patty..that sucks about your computer.

When Jake and I were coming back from our honeymoon, he accidentally packed his iPod in our checked luggage and it along with 3 SD cards for our digital camera with tons of pictures got stolen in Atlanta airport. Security my arse.
