This is our living room. It's still a work-in-progress (seeing as we still need a coffee table, more/better DVD shelfs, and an entrance organization area). Here is our TV area:
We struggled and struggled to figure out how to set up our living room and for one reason or another, nothing was ideal. This was the best arrangement we could come up with. It's functional, so I just try to ignore the awkward placement of the couch. *shrug*
And that pretty much sums up our living room.

it is surprisingly spacious and modern....easing my worries even more....
how long is the drive to base from your neighborhood? is there traffic or are the streets pretty calm?
is the weather warmer now? do the birds chirp in japanese?
just kidding about that last question...
I'd kill for that sectional. I love sectionals. I want to take a nap on your sectional.
Continue the tour! Continue the tour!
Yeah, the new houses they've built/are continuing to build are modeled after American homes, so they're as big and modern as what we're used to in the states. If you can manage to get one of them when you get here, you'll have no problems fitting your furniture and having enough storage space, that kind of thing. We wish we had brought more.
From our house we're about a 10 minute drive to main base. My hubby works out on Security Hill, which is another 15 minutes of driving on base to get out there. Very calm streets. Sometimes around the morning/evening commute hours it gets a bit backed up, but that's because there are only 2 or 3 main streets in Misawa in the first place, so everyone ends up on them. :) Traffic isn't a concern though, generally.
The weather is PERFECT now! Usually mid-70's daily. I'm enjoying it before it supposedly turns deathly hot for the summer.
Purple- Don't be too jealous, our couch is actually much less comfortable than it looks...
Great living room! I like the arrangement. Not a fan of placing everything right against the wall so I think this looks good. Have a question about the outside of the house, is that a window A/C unit near the deck? And kerosene tanks in the back? We had kerosene heater and hot water heater. Propane tank for stove.
Terry- Yup, that's an AC unit. We have one in the living room, and one in the master bedroom. And yes, kerosene tanks for heating.
